Adamstown CC secures new home

Corkagh Park, next to the N7 close to Clondalkin, is the match venue for the newly-formed Adamstown Cricket Club. Formed in April 2009, Adamstown played several friendlies against Knockharley, Pembroke and Mount Juliet and also competed in the Charity Cup held at Bird Avenue.

In September 2009, the club hosted a six-a-side knockout blitz at Griffeen Park, Lucan, attended by six teams.

December 2009 saw the commencement of indoor training at Adamstown Educate Together School. Following this, club officials met with ‘Castlethorn Development’ and secured a green area for cricket training in the heart of the community beside the new train station along with the local soccer and GAA clubs. They remarked that ‘in Adamstown it is clear that for the first time in Irish history, cricket will be the MAJORITY sport in the town’.

Further meetings with Alison Silke and Thos McDermott from South Dublin County Council led the club members to meet with Bill Kearney of the Parks Department and head ranger at Corkagh Park, Matt Rudden. An excellent working relationship has been established and they are delighted to welcome Adamstown CC to their facility.

Dave Hackett, groundsman with Trinity College, visited the ground and has advised regarding the establishment of a cricket square while Guy Satchwell and Derek Carroll from the Leinster Grounds Association have also offered their valuable knowledge regarding pre-season work required on the new ground.

South Dublin County Council has recently agreed to fund coaching visits to several schools in Adamstown. Andrew Leonard visits Arch Bishop Ryan School in Balgaddy and Adamstown NS each week where the popularity of the game continues to grow.

The first games this year took place against Phoenix on April 25th, with other games also planned against Knockharley, Dundalk, Sligo, Civil Service, Old Belvedere and UCD.

Training currently takes place each Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Corkagh Park, where all new members are welcome regardless of experience or ability.
